The first stop in this historic city is the catacombs of Kom al-Shuqqafa, a Roman burial site which reveals the merging of Egyptian and Roman art and architecture. Down stairs below ground to see the tomb and Caracals Hall. Back above ground, proceed to Pompey's Pillar, a granite column of 82-foot (25-meter) built for Emperor Diocletian, who freed the besieged city and brought food to its starving people. Continuing the Roman theme, next place to visit is the Roman amphitheater, possibly the best preserved Roman site in Egypt. It also includes remains of Roman street and homes. Do not miss a visit to Alexandria Modern Library which is a Norwegian-designed building hosting copy of every book published in the world what made it one of the great literary sites in the world. Then walk and relax around the Montazah Palace Green Gardens before ending your tour with a visit to Quaitbay citadel, built on the site of the ancient pharos (light house of Alexandria). Finally, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
